Our Foundation
Every major AI system running in production today has NumPy somewhere in its stack.
In the late 1990s, scientific computing was fragmented, inaccessible, and expensive. Researchers needed something better than a fractured array system. That’s why Travis Oliphant, then a Mayo Clinic PhD student, wrote NumPy and SciPy. Those tools are the foundation of modern data science and modern AI.
Travis went on to start Anaconda, bringing open-source data science to enterprise at global scale. Then Quansight, deepening that work with the world’s most demanding organizations. At each step, the same pattern: identify a moment where the world needs a new standard, build the open infrastructure, earn the trust of the community, and help enterprises adopt it at scale.
